Is drug allergy genetic?

Is drug allergy genetic?

Drug allergies are abnormal reactions of the immune system to a medication. In many cases, the allergic reactions are mild. Severe cases can lead to shock and may be life-threatening.

Though certain reactions are mostly incalculable, genetic polymorphisms of specific genes can drive patients to allergy. These genetic allergies causing victims usually show familial and ethnic clustering.

This is why we regularly observe doctors questioning for a family history of any drug allergy.

Is someone of your family allergic to a specific drug or type of drug? If so, be warned: should be careful what drugs you take, you may well have inherited an allergic tendency.

This does not mean that drug allergies run in families. There is no reason to say that if a parent shows an allergic reaction to a drug then the children or any one of them will develop this allergy.  So make sure that your doctor  know regarding your history of drug allergies in your family.

Drug allergy tests are the most relevant method to identify that you are allergic to a drug.

However, the entire risk may not completely depend on these genetic revisions. These reactions are impossible to determine as several factors that play a role to make you allergic
